Training with Schluter Systems

In October, we had product representatives for Schluter Systems at the Training Center for two nights of hands-on demonstration featuring their uncoupling membrane and complete shower system. The uncoupling membrane is designed to reduce cracking in the subfloor and increase the longevity of the tile by adhering to the subfloor and allowing the mortar bed to float. The complete shower system is an integrated system that is entirely watertight from the showerhead down when installed. It can include soundproofing, shower shelves, benches, and curbs.

In our training, they covered TCNA & ANSI specifications for waterproof membranes and shower pans. Our tile apprentices learned about the different mortars used with the products and the correct tools for use with the projects they created. They practiced proper troweling techniques and measuring and cutting for precision fit. They built a shower bench and installed a drain using these products and appropriate techniques, which was a great opportunity for all our apprentices to get hands-on experience with these installations.

A special thanks to Jeremy, Nick, and Brian, of Schluter Systems for the time they spent on the preparations, the successful two days of training, and the clean-up after.

Schluter Systems training will be available as an upgrade to all current tile journey-workers, next class will be in January/February 2023 pending interest. A minimum of 12 sign-ups are required to schedule the class. Sign-up here!
