TILE APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROGRAM

  • Those interested should be in good physical condition and be able to lift at least 50 lbs. at least waist height repetitively
  • Should have a valid Minnesota Drivers License and a reliable form of transportation
  • Tuition cost is approximately $350.00 per semester to be paid by the student

PLACEMENT IN THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

Currently the only method to gain access to the Tile Finisher Training Program is through a sponsorship:
  1. Sponsorship
    • The procurement of employment with a Signatory Contractor. If an individual finds a contractor that is willing to sponsor them as an Apprentice, that person may begin as a first year apprentice in the Fall semester. THE REGISTERED TILE FINISHER TWO YEAR APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

This program is a two-year program that requires the completion of 4000 hours of on the job training as well as 144 hours per year of related class room training.

  • The training year runs from the beginning of September through the end of April
  • In order to fulfill the 144 hours of related training requirement students must attend classes one evening every week
  • The first year training courses concentrate on the development of manual skill such as grouting proficiently with a grout float, measurement skill, and tile cutting. This year is approximately 70% practical training, job-site preperation; 30% theoretical classroom training.
  • The second year training courses involve the refinement of manual skills with more complex projects such as beginning layout, the use of a variety of materials and patterns. This training is about 70% practical and 30% classroom

Apprentices in this program also receive OSHA 10 hour safety certification course, the scaffold safety course, and first aid, AED, and CPR Training.

THE REGISTERED TILE LAYER TWO YEAR APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

This program is a two-year program that requires the completion of 6000 hours of on the job training as well as 144 hours per year of related class room training.

  • The training year runs from the beginning of September through the end of April
  • In order to fulfill the 144 hours of related training requirement students must attend classes one evening every week
  • The first year training courses involve the refinement of manual skills with the introduction of projects including beginning blueprint reading, layout, safety and the use of variety of materials. This training year is about 70% practical and 30% classroom training.
  • The second year training course involves complex advanced blue print reading, the use of natural stoning, the introduction or more complex projects complex layouts and a review of all materials old and new. This years course concentrates more directly on the technical portion of the trade. The second year consists of approximately 60% classroom and 40% Shop Training.

Apprentices in this program also receive OSHA 10 hour safety certification course, the scaffold safety course, and first aid, AED, and CPR Training.
