Mounds View area highschools asked our Training Center to hold a 6 day workshop in December. Fifteen students from three schools participated. The workshop consisted of three days of bricklaying and three days of tile laying. Each day they were assigned to teams and completed projects that were judged. They did great during their six day visit!

Flynn BAC/IMI International Training Center in Bowie, Maryland.The Flynn Training Center hosts a number of training sessions related to all aspects of our industry. The staff is a highly trained and motivated group of skilled Craftworkers and educators interested in delivering the best possible experience for each BAC member.I have taken many courses at the Flynn Training Center and have been very impressed with the level of training and professionalism of the instructors with each visit. We have several Journeyman Upgrades scheduled for December. Check out the Registration Page. for all the available classes. You can now print off a list of all courses offered through April 2012.
We have 3 outreach programs on the calendar for the second part of the year. One is high school based, one is college, and the last is community based. These programs solidify our commitment to the community and provide funding to the Apprenticeship Training Center while educating people about opportunities in Union trades.
Apprenticeship Coordinator, Rick Martagon, attended the Shakopee Career Fair in November. It was his 3rd year attending the career fair. The students asked great questions and seem to be very interested in Union Building Trades. It is always a great event!
We had a great November! We would like to thank the 1st year Bricklayer apprentices for providing their skills at the Disabled Veterans Camp. They spent a day at the Camp with instructor, Dave Mensing, laying a few courses of block for an out building.
We
would also like to thank the Tile Finishers and Tile Layers for providing their skills at Casa Guadalupana in St. Paul. They spent two nights at the womens shelter with instructor/Apprenticeship Coordinator, Rick Martagon, laying and grouting a glass mosaic tile backsplash in the newly remodeled kitchen.
Lastly, We would like to thank the Duluth Bricklayer Apprentices for providing their skills for a warming house in the Duluth area. They spent a day with instructor, John Talarico, laying block for the new warming house.
The Apprenticeship Training Center held and completed our first PRO-10 class! Forty people participated! The attendees included Contractors, a Project Manager, a Safety director, Journeymen, Apprentices, and a few members from the 49er’s and Laborers. Thank you to all who attended!
Pro-10 will be taught for the first time at the BAC Training Center on November 9th from 4:00 PM until around 8:30 PM. Please read more about PRO-10 here.

Please join us on Friday, October 7th, 2011 for a Journeyman Upgrade Training Program for IUBAC Members in good standing and our Contractors that are Signatory to the BAC Local 1 MN/ND. This Journeyman Upgrade program will cover a wide range of information on one of the most important components of the masonry cavity wall system. For a masonry cavity wall to function properly and provide the best long term performance the flashing must be installed with integrity. The deadline for registration is Friday, September 30th, 2011. We are also looking to gather a minimum of 15 attendees in order to hold this course. Please take advantage of this opportunity.
Metro Orientation is Scheduled for August 24, 2011 at 4:00 PM at the BAC Training Center. If you are sponsored to start your apprenticeship September 2011 make sure you RSVP.
We are sorry to inform you that The Green Core/Welding Journeyman Upgrade scheduled to begin August 9, 2011 has been cancelled. After a meeting with three BlueGreen Alliance staff June 29th, 2011, we were approved and directed to proceed with the program. On Friday, 22 July, 2011 Rick Martagon, Apprenticeship Coordinator, was told funding may not be available. After that, Tuesday, July 26, 2011 St. Paul College cancelled the course. BlueGreen Alliance informed us via email Thursday, July 28, 2011 that funding was unavailable. If you have any further questions contact Rick Martagon

Orientation for Metro Area Active Apprentices is scheduled for August 24, 2011 at 4:00 PM.
We are taking names of people that would like to have OSHA 30 in the Metro Area. Please call and have your name put on the list. Once we have 15 names then a date can be scheduled.
Duluth area OSHA Class is scheduled for July 19 and 20, 2011 from 4-9:30 PM both days. At this time we have no one signed up for this class. In order to hold the class we must have at least 10 members signed up. Register now on the Registration page.

According to the National Safety Education Center, OSHA 10 & 30 cards that are older than five years will not be replaced. Individuals will need to retake the course to receive a new card. It is extremely important that you do not lose your cards. For those who still need OSHA 30 Training, Please call and put your name on the class list. When the enrollment number reaches 15 we will schedule the class and notify you by phone the start date. This evening class will be held once a week. OSHA added two new qualifications requirements that went into effect Nov. 8, 2010. Subpart CC – Cranes and Derricks in Construction: Signal Person Qualification. Any person directing a lift or rigging is required to have this training. The Signal Person/Rigging Class will be held 6/22/2001 from 4-8 PM. Hanging Around with OSHA 30!
Summer OSHA 30 is scheduled and now taking enrollments. The class will start May 5, 2010 and continue every wednesday for 7 weeks from 5:00 PM until 9:30 PM.
Mark is scheduling a Flash and Grout Journeyman upgrade in the duluth area. Our target date is April 22 & 23, 2010. Letters will go out as soon as it is set in stone.
First OSHA 30 Class was a success! We are hoping for the classes to become better and better and time goes on. Next OSHA 30 is scheduled for March 15-19. April 5-9 still has room so register now! During the summer we plan on holding night classes for thoses who couldn't make the course days classes. They will be listed online as soon as a dates are set.
OSHA 30 Classes are now available! The first two March Classes are already full! If you need to be certified please register now for April 5-9.
There will be additional classes starting in May one night a week for six weeks. Watch for them on our registration page
