The following courses are available to Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 1 Minnesota/North Dakota members only. Please contact the BAC Training Center if you have any questions.

We will need to add the silica upgrade to the website. We are offering one at the metro on May 24th at 4:30pm-8:30pm. The total class will be limited to 40 people. Encourage people to get on a waiting list because if there is enough interest we will try to do a second one later. This class will cover the following: Introduction to silica, hazards with silica, tasks and tolls that create dust, health effects of exposure, controlling the hazard and the new OSHA standard. We are going to offer this across the state as well but need to get some arrangements in place first before the dates can be let out. This information will be coming soon.

The Labor-Users-Contractors (LUC) committee includes top construction industry members in Minnesota. LUC’s only goal is to improve and further the union construction industry. LUC developed PRO-10, a professional training course, to go beyond technical skills and develop cooperation and an understanding of each person’s role in an effort to maintain and grow market share. Training certification for the latest technology in tile underlayments and shower systems. Dural is offering a certified training course to explain the proper techniques and installation procedures for tiled floors over uncoupling membranes and waterproofing shower systems that save time and money for the installer.

4 hour Flashing, Anchoring and Reinforcing Masonry introduces new materials and techniques for completing these portions of trowel trades work. Through lecture and demonstration, course participants learn best practice and the installation characteristics of these materials.

6 hour class held by Representatives from Pittsburg Corning Glass Block. This will explain new products and demonstrate methods and techniques for both mortar and mortarless glass block installation.

The GHS is a system for standardizing and harmonizing the classification and labeling of chemicals. It is a logical and comprehensive approach to defining health, physical, and environmental hazards of chemicals, creating classification processes that use available data on chemicals for comparison with the defined hazard criteria, and communicating hazard information as well as protective measures on labels and safety data sheets (SDS).

Insulated Concrete Forms System is a class to familiarize members with the process of erecting walls with insulated concrete forms that go together like giant sized legos. The class is either ran by Nudura ICF Systems or Reward Wall Systems. They will track techniques of how to layout, level, plumb, reinforce, and anchor the product. They go through how to set in beds and block out openings, as well as how to trouble shoot and repair for possible problems. Must attend both days.

6 hour Instruction and hands-on practice with marble patching and polishing materials.

This 30 hour course for private sector personnel covers OSHA policies, procedures and standards, as well as construction safety and health principles. Topics include scope and application of the OSHA construction standards. Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide.

A comprehensive continuing education program for BAC members who want to become Certified Foreman or Superintendents. Through a variety of learning mediums and experiences, individuals will develop new ideas, skills and techniques to meet the requirements and responsibilities of today's supervisory position in the masonry industry. Each level of certification requires successful completion of 16 hours of instruction.
