TERRAZZO FINISHER APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROGRAM

  • Applicants should be in good physical condition and be able to lift at least 50 lbs. at least waist height repetitively
  • All applicants should have a valid Minnesota Drivers License and a reliable form of transportation
  • Tuition cost is approximately $350.00 per semester, $700.00 per year to be paid by the student. Payment options are available.

PLACEMENT IN THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

Currently the only method to gain access to the Terrazzo FinisherTraining Program is through a sponsorship:

  1. Sponsorship
    • The procurement of employment with a Signatory Contractor. If an individual finds a contractor that is willing to sponsor them as an Apprentice, that person may begin as a first year apprentice in the Fall semester. THE REGISTERED TWO YEAR APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

This program is a two-year program that requires the completion of 4000 hours of on the job training as well as 144 hours per year of related class room training.

  • The training year runs from the beginning of September through the end of April
  • In order to fulfill the 144 hours of related training requirement students must attend classes one evening every week
  • The first year training courses concentrate on the development of manual skill such as spreading mortar proficiently with a trowel, measurement skill, mix terrazzo and layout. This year is approximately 70% practical training, hands-on ; 30% theoretical classroom training.
  • The second year training courses involve the refinement of manual skills with more complex projects such as steps, walls, blueprint reading, and the use of a variety of materials, patterns, and more directly on the technical portion of the trade.

Apprentices in this program also receive OSHA 30 hour safety certification course, the scaffold safety course, PRO-10, and first aid, AED and CPR Training.

Taxable Income: Base Rate + Vacation Pay + IU Dues = Taxable Hourly

Metro Journeyman Example: $20.67 + $2.50 + $1.56 = $24.73

B. Use & Maintain All Tools Of The Trade 200 Hours
C. Handle & Move Job-site Materials from Stockpile to Point of Installation 150 Hours
D. Float Bed-sand Cushion, Isolation Membrane Wire Mesh & Screeding Underbed 270 Hours
E. Install Divider Strips & Blue Divider Strips 200 Hours
F. Place Terrazzo Mixture in Panels & Trowel to Top of Strips & Seeding of Additional Chips 410 Hours
G. Mix Various Types of Mortar & Chips 300 Hours
H. Thin-set Epoxy, Polyester, Polyacrylate, & Other Artificial Simulated Materials 500 Hours
I. Install Seamless Floors 200 Hours
J. Clean, Seal, Grout, & Protect Terrazzo 60 Hours
K. Install Membrane Over Cracks 60 Hours
L. Machine Grind & Polish Acid Wash; Select & Use Other Polishing Compounds & Methods 1110 Hours
M. Apply Stone Aggegate 150 Hours
